The Pac Rim International Conference on Disability is working to improve what we do to help everyone feel safe, comfortable, and supported during all conference sessions and activities. Please review the following details to support our commitments to inclusion, accessibility and belonging.

In Case of Emergency

Automatic Captioning for Presenters

Live presenters at Pac Rim are required to use automatic captioning during oral presentations in an effort to increase accessibility for attendees. Automatic captioning can transcribe your spoken words as you present and display them on-screen as captions. This can help accommodate individuals in the audience who may be deaf or hard of hearing, or more familiar with another language, respectively.

Transportation

Shuttle Pick Up

If you are taking the shuttle, refer to the posted schedule. Please arrive at the shuttle pick up location at least ten minutes prior to the pick up times. Shuttles may run early or late due to unpredictable traffic.

The Handy-Van

Attendees visiting Hawaiʻi who require accessible transportation may use TheHandi-Van, Honolulu’s ADA paratransit service.

Confirm Your Eligibility

You must show that you are eligible for paratransit services.

If you already have paratransit eligibility in your home state, region, or country:

  • Contact your local transit/paratransit provider
  • Request that your provider fax your eligibility documentation to TheHandi-Van Eligibility Center

If you do NOT currently have eligibility:

  • Obtain a medical document from your healthcare provider stating your need for paratransit service
    • Be sure the document includes your name, DOB, home address, phone number, any applicable mobility devices, and the address you’ll be staying on the island.
  • Fax that documentation to the TheHandi-Van Eligibility Center

Schedule Your Ride

  • You may schedule rides 24 hours in advance
  • It is recommended to call 1–3 days before your trip to ensure availability

Helpful Tip

Have the following ready when you call:

  • Travel dates
  • Local pickup address (hotel or residence)
  • Event location
  • Return trip time

This process allows visiting attendees to access transportation comparable to paratransit services in where they live.
